About Valiant Minds Counseling

Our Story

Valiant Minds Counseling was founded by Valerie McIntyre, LPC, ADHD-CCSP, a licensed professional counselor, author, and lifelong advocate for neurodiverse and emotionally sensitive individuals. Valerie’s journey began with a simple belief: healing starts when people feel truly seen, understood, and valued for who they are.

After years of supporting clients facing ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and the weight of perfectionism, Valerie envisioned a practice that focused not only on coping, but on helping people grow, thrive, and rediscover their strengths. She wanted to create a space where individuals could explore how to live with greater awareness, self-compassion, and confidence in their own abilities.

That vision became Valiant Minds Counseling, a warm and inclusive group practice built on respect for each client’s story and the belief that everyone holds the capacity for growth and resilience.

Our Philosophy

At Valiant Minds Counseling, everything we do is guided by three core principles: Resilience, Self-Compassion, and Empowerment.

Resilience reminds us that healing is not about never falling. It is about learning how to rise again and trust our ability to keep moving forward. We help clients uncover the inner strength that has always existed within them, even in moments of uncertainty or struggle.

Self-Compassion invites kindness where self-criticism once lived. We support clients in shifting from shame and judgment to understanding and acceptance. In doing so, they learn to approach themselves with the same empathy they offer to others.

Empowerment is at the heart of meaningful change. Whether someone is learning to manage ADHD, rebuild trust after trauma, or navigate anxiety and relationships, we help them develop insight, confidence, and practical tools that create lasting transformation.

Our team of experienced therapists brings diverse perspectives and training, yet shares one unified mission: to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that honors the uniqueness of every person we serve.

A Journey to a Valiant Mind

Valiant Minds Counseling reflects the same philosophy of healing and growth that Valerie shares in her book, “A Journey to a Valiant Mind: Navigating ADHD with Resilience, Self-Compassion, and Empowerment.”

Through personal stories, research, and practical strategies, Valerie offers encouragement and guidance for those navigating ADHD and emotional regulation. Her message is clear: your struggles do not define you. Your courage, perseverance, and willingness to understand yourself more deeply are what truly matter.

Both the book and the practice share the same purpose: to remind people that when they approach themselves with compassion, transformation becomes possible.
